Over 40% of our staff have been at Southwark between five and 15 years. The reasons they stay are as diverse as the people themselves. But we’re confident that the culture, career opportunities and rewards we offer are a big part of the story.
Benefits
Learning and Development
At Southwark, the learning never stops. Every social worker has an online learning portal and has access to all-year-round learning and development opportunities. There are also scholarships, personal coaching, and professional development opportunities (where funding may be provided for career-enhancing further education).
We also offer the accredited Foundation Level in Systemic Practice for those who continue their career in Southwark, as well as training in restorative practices, secure base, and attachment or trauma informed practice.
Career progression
In 2018, we were awarded the “Gold” status award from the Investors in People organisation. The report noted that “Southwark has a culture that incorporates openness, truly supports diversity, trust and willingness to communicate, and involves all people at every level in the work of the council”. IiP also noted that personal development is embedded as a key part of our organisational culture.
